Finding Safety and Gentleness in the Body and Breath
This session merges polyvagal theory, the science of safety, breathwork, and TRE' (Tension and Trauma Release Exercises.) Deborah Maddison discusses polyvagal theory and its important applications to all healing modalities. She will also talk about TRE' as your innate release mechanism. You'll practice neural regulation (vagal toning) to down-regulate your nervous system, then enjoy breathwork for healing, calm, and resilience.
In this session, you’ll discover:
- Simple yet powerful neural exercises to connect to safety in the body and mind, and regulate hormones
- An understanding of TRE' (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises), why it's so important, and how it supports productive breathwork
- A gentle guided breath practice leading to a meditation with coherent breathing for calm & resilience + some simple takeaway tools

Deborah Maddison's approach brings the power of gentleness through the practices of Breathwork and TRE®. She is passionate about creating a safe space for those ready to reach the deepest and most vulnerable parts that are ready to release gently. She believes in the need for clients to slow down, and regulate the nervous system, so that these vulnerable parts feel safe enough to begin to let go of their hold and prepare for integration, to be gently embraced back into wholeness.
She found TRE® and Breathwork after a long search, following medical retirement from her work as a Royal Navy officer in her late 20s. After many years of cathartic approaches (a slow learner perhaps!), she came to realize they weren't changing her daily reality and were sometimes retraumatizing. Anxiety, depression, and complex PTSD had swamped her, but through TRE® (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises) and the gentle Breathwork approach taught by the AIR School Of Breathwork, she steadily found herself becoming more grounded, more embodied, and more alive. Deborah walks the talk and uses these practices daily to come home to herself, release from tension and maintain a deeper connection to herself and all of life. She's also a co-trainer with her alma mata, the AIR School of Breathwork.
It is her passion to share TRE® and Breathwork with others. And she offers this work with love, kindness, and compassion to all those who are drawn.
